Start with what stays dry
Every day cruise on this site includes water activities, but none of them is only a water activity. Lunch, the sailing between stops and the return are all spent on board. The useful question for a non-swimmer is not whether the boat is suitable in general. It is how many hours of the day remain worthwhile if you skip the swimming, and possibly the kayaking too.
This guide is about planning a day, not about safety or medical suitability. We cannot tell you that any activity is safe for you. Tell the team about your swimming ability when you enquire, and let the guide know again on the day.
Two itineraries with a land stop
If you want a part of the day ashore, look first at the itineraries that visit Viet Hai. Voyage of the Green Bay — Serenity Grandeur Cruise docks at Viet Hai pier at about 13:15 and includes a ride through the forest by electric car or bicycle, with time in the village before returning to the boat at about 14:30.
Day Cruise & Kayak Lan Ha Bay — Viet Hai Village has its village visit at about 14:30. You can walk or rent a bicycle there, and the listing notes that visitors are solely responsible for incidents on the cycling route. If you plan to walk, ask how far the village is from the pier on that departure.
What the other hours can look like
On Serenity Grandeur, the 15:00 activity block is open by design: some guests kayak or use the slide while others stay around the pool and jacuzzi or on the sundeck. A pool is still water, so ask about depth and supervision rather than assuming it suits you.
The Full-Day Lan Ha Bay Tour and Serenity Boutique suit a guest who is happy with long stretches of scenery. The Full-Day listing describes lounging on the sundeck after lunch and a section of Southern Ha Long Bay seen from the deck. Serenity Boutique has three decks and afternoon tea on the way back. On both, the main stops are kayaking and swimming, and the listings do not say what a guest who stays out of the water does during them. Ask whether you can stay aboard, and whether crew remain with the boat while the group is away.
Kayaks and life jackets
Some non-swimmers do want to try the kayak. The Full-Day and Serenity Boutique listings describe two-person sit-on-top kayaks with life jackets provided. A life jacket is equipment, not a guarantee, and it does not make a kayak a suitable choice for every guest. Before deciding, ask whether you may paddle with a confident partner.
Skip the deck jump, swimming off the boat and the slide unless the crew confirm they suit you. Nobody needs to join in to have had a good day. The guide’s and crew’s instructions apply on the day, and they can change or stop an activity depending on conditions.
