Check the meal format before the menu
Lunch can be included on two day cruises while being served in different ways. The Full-Day Lan Ha Bay Tour lists a Vietnamese lunch onboard. Serenity Grandeur lists a buffet or set menu. Choose using the format confirmed for your departure, rather than a photograph of a buffet from another sailing.
The Grandeur description associates buffet service with larger groups. That does not tell you the passenger count or meal format on your date. If a buffet is important to your party, message the team before booking and wait for a specific answer. A set menu can be a suitable alternative, but the team should explain the arrangement.
Send requirements for each guest
Both listings mention vegetarian or vegan options on request. Tell the team how many meals of each type you need. A party of four with one vegan and one vegetarian requires a different request from four people all eating the same menu. Include the cruise date and chosen service so the request can reach the relevant operator.
Describe the actual restriction rather than relying on one broad label. For example, say whether a guest avoids meat, fish, eggs or dairy. This is a way to make the request unambiguous; it is not a claim that the kitchen can meet every restriction. If the meal determines whether you can travel, get that answer before you book.

Separate preferences from allergy requirements
A vegetarian option is not evidence of an allergen-free kitchen. The published inclusion lists do not establish ingredient handling, cross-contact controls or a dedicated preparation space. For a food allergy, ask the operator to confirm what it can provide and what limitations apply. Do not infer suitability from the words seafood lunch or vegetarian available.
Avoid sending a vague note such as special food needed. State the requirement, which guest it concerns and whether a proposed substitute is acceptable. If the answer remains unclear, ask for clarification before choosing the cruise. The blog cannot confirm an individual kitchen's arrangements.
Account for drinks and extra purchases
Lunch being included does not make every drink part of the fare. The Full-Day listing excludes drinks. Grandeur lists a welcome drink and sunset party while also excluding onboard drinks. Those entries describe particular inclusions, rather than an unrestricted drinks package.
Ask which drinks accompany the meal and which are purchased separately. If you plan to bring food or drinks, check the operator's rules first; neither of these listings should be treated as permission for unrestricted outside catering. Keep any agreed additional meal charge in writing with your booking confirmation.
Make the food note easy to act on
A useful request reads: selected cruise, travel date, total guests, meal requirements by guest, and questions about the confirmed meal format. Add children's ages if they are travelling. This gives the booking team a concrete set of details to check rather than a preference it must interpret.
Read the reply alongside the itinerary and exclusions. Keep the meal confirmation with your booking details, and tell the team if the party changes. The aim is to choose a day whose actual lunch arrangements work for your group, with any unresolved requirements identified before you commit.
Questions answered
Is the meal format the same on every cruise?
No. Grandeur lists buffet or set-menu service, while another programme has its own lunch description. Confirm the format relevant to your departure.
Does vegetarian availability establish allergy handling?
No. A menu preference and an allergy-handling arrangement are different claims. Obtain the actual operator response for an essential restriction.
Before you book
This guide draws on the listed services and booking policies. Listed day cruises show the itinerary, inclusions and VAT-inclusive total before you pay; programmes marked for availability review are confirmed before payment.
